El petó – The kiss

Girona Jazz Festival

“Elisabet Raspall and Chris Cheek officially present the repertoire of their new collaboration, El Petó – The Kiss. The Catalan pianist and composer and the American saxophonist thus culminate a long musical relationship that has already given fruit to evocative recordings like Triangles and Plujazz, which the duet now offers in its most essential and intimate format. A date that invites you to taste the compositional elegance of Raspall’s pieces, always between sleep and awake, and the interpretative richness of Cheek, one of the great musicians that emerged during the ’90s and regular sideman of the best modern jazz musicians like Bill Frisell, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Brad Mehldau, and the late Paul Motian.”

Jimmy Glass JAZZ in Valencia

“The pianist Elisabet Raspall debuts at Jimmy Glass, presenting an album recorded in duo format with the great saxophonist Chris Cheek, coming from New York to perform in Spain for the first time.”

Jamboree Jazz Club in Barcelona

Triangles (Fresh Sound New Talent, 1996) was the first album by Elisabet Raspall, from Vilanova, that she worked on with the saxophonist Chris Cheek, one of the leaders of the new New York scene. Raspall and Cheek got together again to work on the album Plujazz (Raspall Records), from 2010. With El petó – The Kiss, their latest album, they establish a delicious tête-à-tête, constructed on a basis of complicity, love, sensitivity and laying themselves bare. With 8 albums behind her and collaborations with top-class figures, Elisabet Raspall has been a leader on the Catalan jazz scene since the beginning of the ’90s. She is a contemporary of Chris Cheek, traveling companion of Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jorge Rossy, among others, and sideman to Paul Motian and Bill Frisell. Twin souls – two free spirits – offering original, profound music. Undoubtedly a top-class duo.”

Foment Vilanoví in Vilanova i la Geltrú

“The Catalan pianist and composer Elisabet Raspall presents her 8th album El Petó – The Kiss (Raspall Records RR003) forming a duo with the prestigious American saxophonist Chris Cheek, who has already collaborated on two of the Barcelona native’s albums, Triangles (1996) and Plujazz (2010). Intimate music charged with energy and passion.”
