Duo – Elisabet Raspall & Chris Cheek
Elisabet Raspall – piano & composition
Chris Cheek – tenor and soprano sax
Elisabet Raspall is a Catalan composer and renowned pianist who has won several awards for best composition, released 8 albums of her own original compositions as leader of her band, and has collaborated with acclaimed jazz and world music artists. She has accompanied major artists, including Chris Cheek, who recorded on her first album Triangles in Quintet format ( FSNT 018-1996 ), and on her fifth album Plujazz in Quartet ( RR001 Raspall Records -2010). She is currently presenting her latest recording: El petó – The Kiss in duo with Chris Cheek, American saxophonist regarded as one of the most creative musicians in the international jazz scene and who plays regularly with big names such as Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Brad Meldhau.
This new partnership between the American musician and Barcelona’s exceptional pianist and composer required a more direct involvement to achieve a higher degree of intimacy between both artists, combining the original compositions by Elisabet with the great mastery and interpretative richness of Chris Cheek. “Work and love”… these are the words that summarize the time spent on the formation of the duo, where every moment is an enchantment for the soul and food for the spirit. This music is intended -above all- to be a life lesson, beginning with its bareness, continuing with its refinement, and finally arriving at its authenticity.
